How to Convert Krutidev to Unicode in Word
You can convert a Kruti Dev Word file to Unicode in about two minutes: copy the text, paste it into a converter, then paste the result back with a Unicode Hindi font.
Steps
- Select the Kruti Dev text in your Word file and copy it. Copy only the Hindi parts if the file also has English text.
- Open the Krutidev to Unicode converter and paste the text into the left box. If your browser blocks the Paste button, long-press the box and choose Paste.
- Check the result on the right. It should read as normal Hindi.
- Tap Copy result.
- Paste into a new Word file or a fresh spot in the same file. Use Paste options and choose Keep Text Only, so no old formatting comes along.
- Set a Unicode Hindi font such as Mangal or Nirmala UI on Windows. If the text shows boxes, the font you picked does not support Hindi.
Tip. Work in a new file instead of editing the old one. Keep the original Kruti Dev file as your backup until you have read the converted version once.
Things to check after converting
- English words. English letters are also Kruti Dev keys, so they get converted too. Convert only the Hindi parts of mixed text.
- Numbers and punctuation. Look at dates, amounts and brackets. These are the places where old files differ most.
- Half letters and conjuncts. A few words may come out slightly off. Fix them by hand.
- Tables. Convert the text cell by cell, or copy the whole table text in one go and rebuild the layout in Word.
The other way round
Need to turn Unicode Hindi back into Kruti Dev for a typing test or an old template? Use the Unicode to Krutidev converter, paste the result into Word and apply the Kruti Dev 010 font. If you share that file, save it as a PDF so the Hindi shows up correctly on devices without the font.
If the converted text still looks wrong
- It still shows English letters: your file may use Devlys or Chanakya, which have different layouts.
- Most words look fine but a few are odd: that is normal for old files. Fix those words by hand.

Quick questions
Does Word have a built-in Krutidev to Unicode converter?
Not that we know of. Word can show Kruti Dev text only when the font is installed. To get real Unicode Hindi, you need to convert the text with a converter like the one on this site.
Will my formatting stay the same after converting?
Only the text is converted. Bold, size and layout do not carry over, so paste with Keep Text Only and apply your formatting again in Word.
