Internet Speed Test
Check your download speed, upload speed and ping in about 30 seconds. Free, no signup, and it works on your phone.
What your speed is good for

A full test can use a few hundred MB on fast connections. Use Wi-Fi if your mobile data is limited.
How to get an accurate result
- Move close to your router, or connect with a cable if you can.
- Pause downloads, streaming and other devices on the same network.
- Turn off VPN and any ad blocker for this page.
- Run the test two or three times and take the middle result.
Speed changes through the day. If your internet feels slow only in the evening, test at different hours and compare the numbers.
What the numbers mean
- Download is how fast data reaches you. It matters for video, browsing and downloads.
- Upload is how fast you can send data. It matters for video calls, cloud backups and sending large files.
- Ping is the delay in milliseconds. Lower is better for calls and online games.
- Jitter is how much the ping changes. A steady connection has low jitter.
Download speed is shown in Mbps, but your browser shows downloads in MB/s. Divide Mbps by 8 to compare. A 100 Mbps connection gives roughly 12.5 MB/s.
How much speed do you need?
| What you do | Rough speed needed |
|---|---|
| Browsing and WhatsApp | 3 Mbps or more |
| HD video | 8 Mbps or more |
| 4K video | 25 Mbps or more |
| Video calls | 5 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up |
| Online gaming | 10 Mbps with ping under 50 ms |
| Large downloads | 50 Mbps or more feels comfortable |
These are rough guides. Each app has its own needs, and every person in your home shares the same connection.
Ping feels high or laggy?
Speed is only half the story. For games and calls, check your delay with our ping test. It takes about five seconds and uses almost no data.
If your speed is slow
- Restart your router and test again.
- Move closer to the router, or use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band if you have it.
- Disconnect devices you are not using.
- Test with a cable. If the cable is much faster, the problem is your Wi-Fi.
- If it stays slow at all times, contact your provider with your test results.
Frequently asked questions
How do I test my internet speed accurately?
Stand close to your router or use a cable, close other apps and downloads, turn off any VPN, and run the test two or three times. Use the middle result. Testing at different times of day also shows how busy hours affect your speed.
Why is my speed lower than my plan?
The speed on your plan is the best case between your provider and your router. Wi-Fi distance, walls, other devices, busy hours and the server you test against all lower the number you see on a phone or laptop.
What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
Mbps means megabits per second and is how plans are sold. MB/s means megabytes per second and is what download bars show. One byte is eight bits, so divide Mbps by 8. A 100 Mbps connection downloads about 12.5 MB per second.
What are ping and jitter?
Ping is the time in milliseconds a signal takes to reach a server and return. Lower is better for calls and games. Jitter is how much that time changes from one check to the next. A low jitter means a steady connection.
How much data does the test use?
It depends on your speed. On a fast connection a full test can use several hundred megabytes, because it keeps transferring until it gets a stable reading. If your mobile data is limited, use Wi-Fi or stop the test early.
Is the speed test private?
The test runs in your browser and exchanges test data with Cloudflare speed test servers, which can see your IP address like any website you visit. We do not save your results on our servers. Recent results stay only on your own device.
